lancasterDN121007.jpgPatricia Lancaster, the recently embattled Commissioner of the Department of Buildings, has resigned, according to City Room. Mayor Bloomberg announced the resignation and Lancaster released the following statement:

Today I submitted my resignation, which Mayor Bloomberg accepted. It has been an honor serving in his administration and I thank the Mayor for this opportunity. After six years in public service, I made this decision because I felt it was time to return to the private sector. I am proud of the groundbreaking work the department has done during my tenure to root out corruption, increase transparency, overhaul the building code and increase safety for workers and the public alike. My message today to the talented and capable staff at the Department of Buildings is to keep up the hard work: you’ve made so much important progress. It has been my distinct pleasure working with you.

It’s unclear at this time who Lancaster’s replacement will be.

  1. Benson –
I happen to agree with 2:15
Anyway – Why would anyone want to go out on the weekends (or anytime) in this city when 25 tons of steel are flying across the streets, thanks to the idiots running this city?

  2. The engineer that was supposed to have inspected the crane that collapsed was in a coffee shop drinking coffee instead of inspecting the crane. That particular incident had nothing to do with understaffing. Although I agree that understaffing is an issue at DOB, most city agencies are understaffed and they have all been asked to do more with less. The most successful of the Commissioners knows how to light the fire under the asses of some of those lazy civil servants in their employ. This lady didn’t have a clue.

    Who’s a whacko?
Seems to me that you may be the whacko. Who ever it is that posted at 2:15 happens to have hit the nail on the head.
If that is what you call whacko then I wish there were alot more people just like that.

  5. 4:17 – i pass no judgment either way re lancaster. be it lancaster or john thain as dob commish, it’s an exercise in futility if the city is not going to staff the dept adequately (or even close to adequately).

  6. being thrown under the bus by the mayor goes with the job as commissioner. Ms. Lancaster was one of the best people in the administration. she was not the one who wanted more more MORE development. but she is the one taking the bullet.

  7. BrooklynLove,

Why do you disapprove of our elected officials? Bloomberg is our elected mayor, and he has accepted the resignation of Lancaster, so in order to have a smoothly running society, I should hope you accept his decision.
