The Absolute Hard Launches
We don’t quite see the point of soft and hard openings when it comes to selling condo developments, but presumably there’s a reason for it. We don’t quite see the point of soft and hard openings when it comes to selling condo developments, but presumably there’s a reason for it. That’s the approach at The Absolute, the six-story building that’s gone up at 111 Steuben Street in Clinton Hill over the past couple of year. When we wrote about it back in December, sales were about to get underway. As of today, four units have signed contracts, a fact that will no doubt be trumpeted at tonight’s opening party from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mid century gets a bad rap in NY. NYC- sometimes it is stuck up its own arse.
I hate to say it but I like it. Then again, I like the kodachrome building as well, and i dont think it turned out well for the developer.
Many of those office buildings built 40 years ago (like, say, Lever House) are universally considered masterpieces of modern architecture. I think this sleek, chic building represents a worthwhile descendant of that movement.
Have you detractors ever seen the show “Mad Men” on AMC? Have a look at that show–gorgeous production design and wardrobe, too–and when you see those buildings with the right kind of furnishings inside, you might understand a little better what good, mid-century design is about.
Looks like On Prospect Park. Or a stubbier version of it anyway.
I can see how someone might not love this place but to call it ugly, at least when compared to other new buildings nearby, seems a little extreme. Unimaginative? Unattractive? No.
that looks incredibly similar to the rehab of the verizon building (1095 Avenue of the Americas) by bryant park that i see from my office all day long (http://www.mdeas.com/#)
hard or soft opening, these are fugly. this looks like a weird office bldg from the 1960’s.
worst building i’ve seen built in a LONG time.
hideous, actually.
this place would have looked dated in 1977.
The building is pretty ugly. Looks better in the render with different surfaces and more detailing- too bad they chose to throw out the character.
