A couple of months after the marketing banners went up, some activity finally commenced this week at 20 Henry. The owners of the former Peakes Mason Mints building finally got approval last week for the 4-story, 14-unit building that they plan to build in the courtyard at the northern end of the property. As we reported back in April, the cheapest apartments will be north of $400,000.

I’m glad this is finally moving forward. The old factory building looks like hell and needs a soup-to-nuts renovation. The new building on the site of the garden is not as bad as it could have been. Let’s just get it built so this site no longer looks like a chunk of Detroit landed in Brooklyn Heights.
It was struck down, according to Wikipedia, by a Florida appellate court in 1959.
A movement to establish a “Right to Light” would make a tremendous contribution to the quality of life in Brooklyn.
Shame about the wood-clad place with the side-windows. I suppose the US doesn’t have the “ancient lights” doctrine.
