Sad news. The original Flirt boutique is calling it quits. An email that just went out from the store says the following: “Our building on Smith Street has been sold and we will be closing that location as of June 30th.” The Flirt on 5th Avenue in the Slope will stay open. The Smith Street Flirt opened eight years ago and was part of the first wave of newer retail to the thoroughfare. Metromix reports that the shop is having a big sale before it says goodbye.

Things that are still good on Smith: Proscuitto Balls at Joe’s, Stinky Brooklyn (but not cheap!), Gowanus Yacht Club (weeknights), Rocketship comic book store, the bunny at the copy place.
I’m sorry to say this to all my Carroll Gardens friends, but Smith St. is the new 7th Avenue. It’s just not that good anymore. The places feel old, the vitality is gone. 5th Avenue in PS, Court, Vanderbilt and Marcy is where its at……
It used to be nice. I remember when it started as tea place. Back when the first people were there. Refinery. Frida’s closet.
Now its starbucks and jungle juice.

When there was a bakery to buy amazing $8 pies. There was no over priced mens clothing store. And, Brownstoner did not even exist.

So now it all gets torn down, and flipped to someone else, and some big glass monstrosity with a Chase and a mortgage vendor takes over the space.
Seriously, this city feeding on itself and it’s not pretty.
If she was there 9 years and doing well, why didn’t she sign a longer term lease? That would have made better business sense, unless she wasn’t allowed to. In that case she should have been looking a while ago.
That block of shops and the empty lot next to it sold fast. Anyone know what’s going to be built there?
6:11 settle down bud… Smith is not trying to be Madison Ave there are some good shops and most importantly good bars and restaurants so shut it bud and go back to Windsor Terrrace…
Smith and Court have great feels and are surronded by the 3 best towns in Brownstone Brooklyn btw Park Slope is not if the 3….
Smith isn’t a has-been it’s a never-was.
When I finally went to Smith to check out the supposed wonderful shopping area I was so bored. Confused about all the fuss. Shops were sparse and spread out in places and just okay not that great.
