It’s not open for business quite yet, but the Walgreens that’s going into the ground floor of the Clermont Condominium at 150 Clermont/375 Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene just put up some brand spankin’ new red awnings. From the looks of it, they’re at the stage of setting up the interior displays at this point.

  1. Heather –

Little Red Boutique in the hood (Bed Suy on Lewis) has all of that (Meyers, Burt Bee’s, candles you name it).

Not sure where you are. I use to live in Clinton Hill (near Pratt and Choice Market). But now we are in a Brownstone in Bed Stuy. Struggle to find everything (pick stuff up on the way home or Target runs or order groceries from Restoration Plaza Foodtown). Or better yet, ASK merchants to carry stuff (on my quest to get Target to carry Seventh Generation diapers if it kills me).

I’m excited for the Duane Reade on Nostrand and I hate Duane Reade (prefer CVS). Sorry big chains work on wealth of merchandise and convenient hours…

  2. I live closer to Prospect Pharmacy, and the place on Fulton, whose name I forget, but, yeah… opening and closing times can be an issue, I realize. As someone somewhat spoiled by Williamsburg, though, I have to say, where are my burt’s bee’s shampoo selection? Where are my fancy organic hair care products? Where are my Myer’s cleaning products? Where are my paba-free correct sunscreen options for the little one?

I sort of hate myself for asking these questions… but I do still wonder.

  3. Well, Heather, there’s the Myrtle Pharmacy on Myrtle at Waverly, and there’s another closer to Ft. Greene Park that’s also called Myrtle Pharmacy (genius, no?). I plan on continuing to use the neighborhood pharms for prescriptions, etc. But the arrival of a late-night chain pharm is fabulous news for the hood. These little storefronts just can’t carry enough stuff, and they close at 7. Who the hell gets home from work in time to make it to a drugstore by 7?

  4. Sorry, hillsbells, but if you’re going to make that call, could you also indicate which pharmacies there are on Myrtle that we’re supposed to support? Seriously, I don’t know the area that well, but I am seriously missing Kings, Rosenblum’s and Chopin since I moved to Fort Greene.

  5. Walgreens is known for its strategic expansion. They focus exclusively on high traffic corner lots. Their selection of this location proabably has a lot of market research behind it. Very good sign for Myrtle Ave and Clinton Hill. Too bad they don’t do supermarkets!
