There were big plans for Pier 11 in Red Hook: a marina to accommodate luxury yachts, restaurants, a hotel and entertainment complex, maybe a public beach. Now the plan is… well, there’s no plan. The Brooklyn Paper reported yesterday that the city’s Economic Development Corp has rejected every proposal submitted by developers to reinvent the area. What was wrong with those proposals? Well, we don’t know. EDC spokeswoman Janel Patterson told the NY Post, “We are looking at other options now on what is the best use of the pier,” and to the Brooklyn Paper she replied, None of the proposals met our criteria. Since we don’t know what their criteria are, we thought we’d ask you: what would you put there?

  1. As anyone come up with an alternative to ockham’s razor (please excuse my spelling, the village is not far from where my parents live). It seems to me that the most complicated and tortuous explanation is what pople currently go for. What is that called?

  2. makes sense to keep the ny harbor a stevedores’ port rather than developing fancy amenities. once again, the city wants quick maximum profit wall street style at the expense of the middle class and the poor. robert moses must have envisioned to keep it that way by way of the BQE to keep the working class on one side. not to mention where would the cargo ships unload if they run out of ports?
