Ditto, the “rare” townhouse on Bedford wouldn’t be close to Grand, would it? Just curious. Walking by Friday night noticed an unusually nice one there. The facade is well preserved and striking to start with. Though it wouldn’t be anything special in Park Slope.
President St. house is really nice looking. To me that area is a bit betwixt and between, but I suppose that’s also an advantage, especially if you enjoy walking. The FG home looks interesting. Something tells me it needs some work, but I’m digging the woodwork and built ins.
LIRR???? thats no where near there.
The Crown Heights house is a beauty. If the baths are as original as the kitchens, fantastic. Everything else seems to be unchanged. Love the tortoise paint on the wall. My only possible criticism is that it might be a tad narrow (going by the LR photo). Don’t know about prices in the area.
That Bedford house has been for sale off and on for many moons now on Craigslist. I recall having seen it for sale for at least 4 years or more. Probably the house has been in someone’s family for years. You think they would have taken 1.75 million and called it a day. If it was purchased in the 70’s , what could the owner have paid maybe $40,000?
I remember seeing a house on Ft. Greene Park for sale @ $4,500,000 , the owner paid less than $40,000 in 1972 for the property. To the best of my knowledge it has never sold, talk about greed. The correction is coming. I am hoping to buy something either this year or 2010. I feel a 20-30% is very likely to happen and look forward to snapping up a 2BR-2 Bath unit in a nice part of Brooklyn for around $375,000
President St is really nice looking….
And I bet the square footage doesnt include the basement.
Just curious–has anyone been to one of the open houses for 505 1st Street?
It would be fun to renovate that house, I agree. Alas, I don’t think, even once we’re both employed and have 10% or more saved up, that we’ll be able to go above $625k. Isn’t that where you switch from 5%-ish to 8%-ish on the interest?
You can barely hear the train on that block, Amzi. I guess mostly because they have some momentum going towards Queens or are powering down to pull into Nostrand Ave. I live behind the actual station and I hear announcements only once in a while, especially in the summer, and the train next to never. I think the train is a non-issue.
As to the block, it’s not bad at all, but there is some major construction going on on the Kingston end. A new school is being constructed that takes up about a quarter of the block on the north side. It’s going to be a charter/prep type school, and is eagerly anticipated. The rest of the block is a mixture of brownstones and small apartment buildings. The block is landmarked.
Landmarks would be overjoyed if someone was to restore the doorway and facade. That said, it’s the kind of thing that could wait, while interior upgrades are made. I love the fireplace surround on the bottom of the listing. It’s very unusual and quite cool. I’d have to strip the wood, and I bet it’s gorgeous. The kitchen is an empty slate. This would be a great house to play with.
