We’re a little behind the curve on this one better late than never…Reginella, a new casual Italian spot, opened a couple of weeks ago at 193 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights. So far, reviews on the Cobble Hill Blog are mixed, but it sounds like the owners’ hearts are in the right place. And, contrary to initial rumors, it’s being run by the folks from Savoia, not a neighboring Yemeni restaurant! Anyone been?

  1. It’s unfortunate that 2 new Italian places opened in the neighborhood, and neither one makes much in classic Italian dishes. I think the only place to get a penne & broccoli is at one of those really awful restaurants on Montague. Anyone have ideas where in the area to get good, classic Italian food?
I find it pitiful, especially with Carroll Gardens (classically Italian neighborhood) up the block, and only 1 good Italian restaurant in sight! Sam’s.
Someone with Italian culinary expertise had better step in to help. Our neighborhood is in desperate need for delicious Italian food.

  2. La Pizetta is the brock-over place on Atlantic bet Clinton & Henry that Brooklyn Chicken and martis and Brownstonerlogin are referring to. And it’s pretty good. The pizzas and toppings are fresh and hot and the crust has been close to perfect each time we’ve been there (5 or 6 times since they’ve opened). It’s a nice relaxing atmosphere – not too loud, although they often have a soccer game on at the TV above the bar. The service there has also been quite good and we, too, were comp’d a desert the first time we were there.

As for Reginella – I’m the “laurie” who left the “mixed” review on CHB and I stand by what I said there. While I hope they get up to speed and that they do well, for the neighborhood’s sake, there’s nothing really special about it right now to make it worth repeat visits.

Now I want to know the status of the former “Lifestyles” hair salon space on the same block as Reginella as well as the former TV repair place on Henry bet Atlantic & Pacific.

  3. There’s a place that opened another block or so west on Atlantic–not sure if it’s the one that Brooklyn Chicken is referring to, but it’s more of an Italian restaurant that also does brick oven pizza. Wish I could remember what it was called… We went there a month or two ago, soon after it opened, and really liked it. The pizza was great, very authentic (i.e., like you get it in Italy), and the owner and staff were charming. The owner even comped us a dessert at the end of the meal after we complimented him on the food. This reminds me that we need to go back!

  4. Despite the fancy-looking sign, the interior looks like a very ordinary pizza joint. I assumed it was for the courts crowd. Another fancy pizza joint just opened a block down. It appears to have been airlifted from Bay Ridge, ca 1982. That plus My Little Pizzeria, how many pizza joints can this area sustain?

  5. I always try to be very positive (and thankful) when new restaurants open in the neighborhood, but my one experience with this place was walking in, looking at all the food, finding nothing that looked appetizing, and walking out. Hopefully others have had more positive experiences that will sway me to try again.
