46-Nevins-Street-0309.jpgThe Eagle broke a double-shot of juicy Brooklyn hotel news yesterday. Item #1: The McSam hotel project at the corner of Nevins and Schermerhorn, whose demo (at right) we’ve been following for a while, will be a 176-room Hyatt Place Hotel; they’re targeting an opening in the first quarter of 2011 for the 13-story project. Item #2: Best Western is planning a 80-room hotel at 55 Flatbush Extension, right next to the (inactive) Flatbush Flatiron. Actually, it looks to us like the Best Western project will take up the four buildings pictured at top from 53 to 61 Flatbush Extension; they sold at the end of last year for a combined $4,860,000.

  1. Well, all i know is i lived in the one at the right, 57, for 21 years, until this summer when we had to leave…went through hell for over a year and a half…hope the land is cursed, nothin’ can grow,, and the well runs dry. Fuck ’em all!

  2. “The Manhattan hotel occupancy rate in
December 2008 was 81.8 percent, down
from 85.4 percent in December 2007.”

    I don’t think it’s fallen to 60% since December.

Brownstoner are you jacking off your nut sack???

    The What

Someday this war is gonna end..

  4. Question to the board: Why is everyone so concerned about what the hotel vacancy rates are right now? A hotel development project takes at least 3 years to complete (from acquisition to demolition to build to completion). The real issue is where vacancy rates will be in 2012-2013, of which we obviously have no idea at this point. My concern is that we are getting an oversaturation of 2 and 3 star hotel product (Best Western, Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, etc.) which seems to run in contrast to the “luxury condos” being built along side (Oro, Toren, etc.)

  5. Is “The McSam” a joke?
Agreed – am really surprised these hotels are making in considering the vacancy rates of hotels in the city are so high.
