The old Century 21 on 5th Avenue near the corner of 8th Street will become a Tribeca Pediatrics office. According to the sign in the window and the company’s website, the office will be a collaboration with RealBirth, “a renowned educational resource for parents.” GMAP

  1. it sounds like a really wonderful practice! I’m expecting my first, and wish there was something like this closer to where I live (Crown Heights). Getting to the Boerum Hill office wouldn’t be so bad though…

  2. Well, they’re on call but they sleep too. So when the baby has a fever at 3am and you’re wondering, “Tylenol or Motrin or alternate them or ER?” it was easy to call Tribeca Peds because they have someone sitting at a desk waiting for a call — they can do it bcs they have a lot of doctors. And they would say, “one dropper or Tylenol and call me back in 45 minutes.” It was really a nice thing when you are a new parent.

Our family is no longer with the practice and we miss that service. I’d call my pediatrician now for something serious, but I’d hesitate for the questionably serious and while I love her, she will NOT say “call me back in 45 minutes” at 3AM.

  3. I can’t comment on Tribeca Peds, but I always assumed all pediatricians were on call 24/7. Pediatric Associates in Park Slope have both Saturday and Sunday office hours for sick visits (a major plus in my book) and there’s always a dr. on call 24 hours. I’ve never heard of a pediatrician who didn’t take overnight phone calls (or have another doctor covering). It’s one of the reasons it is an underpaid and overworked speciality.

  4. My family is another fan of Tribeca Pediatrics. I loved their policy of having one of their docs always awake and “on call” for overnight phone calls. Made me never hesitate to call at 2am when I had a newborn with fever. Only had to use the service once, but loved knowing it was there. Never had an issue getting RX meds either.

  5. big fan of tribeca pediatrics. when they opened in williamsburg, it was like a gift. big, groovy office with great play area and you can get an appointment anytime. made life way easier and docs there – newman and gold both good. small child likes going even! fyi – they have had to prescribe antibiotics for a chronic ear infection more than once, and it was no problem. kid outgrew said infections, but was very nice to have them there when needed.

the saturday option in tribeca is good too!

  6. “Promenade – Is it the Real Birth People or Tribeca Pediatrics you dont like? What is it about their philosophy you think is impracticle?”
I don’t know anything about the “Real Birth People” I’m referring specifically to the doc practice. They have very appealing (somewhat European) ideas on medicine for children, unfortunately, the docs are not all fantastic, available, and in many cases, err to very conservative where they don’t prescribe meds when really needed. With the school year upon us (and another round of Swine flu sure to be virulent in the schools) I would really be careful and read up on their practices, especially if your child has asthma.

  7. We’ve been going to Tribeca Pediatrics-Boerum Hill for almost two years now. Everyone there from the receptionist to the LPN’s to Dr. Tholany could not be more warm and knowledgeable. Because of insurance changes, we had to leave our pediatrician of 9 years. I was very worried about the doc switch but my fears were eased almost immediately. My kids are older and they actually look forward to going to see the doctor.
