boerum-map-1009.jpgBoerum Hill wants what Carroll Gardens is about to get. The Brooklyn Paper reports that Carroll Gardens is reaching the end of a long rezoning road, as the City Council is expected to approve the downzoning of the brownstone neighborhood when it meets on Monday. Meanwhile, The Paper’s sister pub Courier Life says that residents in neighboring Boerum Hill want a piece of the rezoning action: We feel that it is imperative to rezone the 19 orphaned blocks of Boerum Hill from R6 to R6B in order to preserve and enforce contextual development throughout our entire neighborhood, Boerum Hill Association President Howard Kolins wrote to CB 2 District Manger Rob Perris. The rezoning would place height limits on the area regardless of how much FAR a developer accumulates.

  1. CG— try middle of train instead of ends where is more crowded. Too many people want to be 1st out of turnstile so they all jam into front and back cars.

  2. The F is pretty bad, I don’t catch the crowds in the morning (I leave very early) but on the way home, yuck. Where I find it’s most crazytown crowded is getting onto the A/C at Borough Hall. Holy skeedoo!

But to the topic at hand, I think one of the best things about Carroll Gardens is that there aren’t really any big buildings jutting into the skyline. I live on the second floor and get great light from north and south exposures. Having lived in the far West Village in a brownstone, I have to say that CG seems unique in this way. Even interspersed among the b’stones in the West Vill, there were still high buildings and stuff.

  3. “I said “surrounding areas” IE places along the F line BEFORE Bergen.”

Yes, seems logical to figure that if there were more people living in Carroll Gardens, the train, on the way INTO the city, would be even more crowded by Bergen St. If new large (filled) condos were built after Bergen St., the train would remain at current levels of crowdedness at Bergen St. Barring improvement to the F line. Or a massive change in habits by riders.

  4. Dude you don’t have to be a dick. Did you read my post? I said “surrounding areas” IE places along the F line BEFORE Bergen. Jesus, WTF is up people online.

  5. leave for work a little earlier…be surprised how uncrowded it is!
THe map doesn’t expand and I can’t see what the ‘orphaned’ blocks are.
and what exactly does a change from R6 to R6B mean?

  6. > The train is crowded enough as is by the time it gets to Bergen st.

think for a minute before you post, please. any new housing built anywhere on the F line makes the F train more crowded at bergen street. it doesn’t matter one bit where the units are built.

  7. Good, the last thing this neighborhood and surrounding areas need is large condo projects. The train is crowded enough as is by the time it gets to Bergen st.
