After all the drama and anticipation leading up to the opening of F. Martinella at 117 Court Street last year, the slick deli went belly up after nine months. Now it looks like someone else is going to try a similar concept in the space: A sign just went up in the window announcing the Court Diner Deli. We hear the owner was asking over $140 a foot at one point, but it seems unlikely he would have gotten that at this point. Still, even at $100 a foot, this place will have to sling a lot of hash to make rent. GMAP

  1. I think they needs to try a more traditional NYC approach to “deli” as F. Martinella’s obviously didn’t work. I’m thinking good pastrami, corn beef, pickles, stuffed cabbage, etc. This neighborhood needs a place like that I really think it would fill an unmet niche.

  2. They need to be a real NY deli with lots of prepared foods ready to go. It should be quick and they need to have good regular coffee and flavored coffee for a dollar less than Starbucks. It needs to be someplace you walk in, pick up a wrap or a sandwich and pay in less than four minutes. That’s the business model. They should study the PAX chain, but be less pricey as its Brooklyn.

They might have to sling more than hash too…
