Big news for puotine lovers! We stopped by the much anticipated Montreal-style deli Mile End at 97 Hoyt Street a couple of days ago and found out that all systems are go: Owner Noah Bernamoff reported that they’d passed the DOH inspection “with flying colors” last week and that opening day was scheduled for next Monday. A look at the menu shows a wide range of egg, meat and frite dishes, along with Stumptown coffee and old-fashioned sodas. And, of course, poutine. Bring it on!

I like the reference to Beauty’s. St-Viateur Bagels are amazing…
i’ve been to Schwartzs in Montreal. Good sandwich, though not as moist as Katz’s or even Dave’s…. This shop is welcomed…
Augh…just looked up “poutine.” It’s french fries topped with “cheese curds” and “gravy.” Pictures of it invariably look like puke. The word itself seems to derive from “pudding,” may be a slang synonym for “fat woman” or “mess,” and sounds as if it should mean something obscene. Food-wise, apparently it does–although I won’t knock it til I try it; I did, after all, have a similar reaction to pork rinds and chocolate-covered pretzels until I took a bite.
Could you hold the cheese curds on mine, please?
I think they said they will import real Montreal bagels from Fairmount or Saint-Viateur Bagel, and montreal smoked meat. Looking forward to it!

Is anyone else tired of the whole Stumptown thing? Good coffee but everyone that sells it charges much more for it. Prime Meats on Court Street charges $2.50 per cup and NO REFILLS!
I can’t wait for this place, I can get my pastrami while waiting for my connect from the Gowanus houses. WHAT IT DO?
(Ugh, and by “it’s opening” of course I meant “its opening”…)
Can’t wait to try it. I’ve always heard that Mtl is the last bastion of the Jewish deli (and not fossilized like Greengrass/Katz). Plus Stumptown…Bonne chance!
So excited! We live right nearby and pass this place frequently–been eagerly awaiting it’s opening. I’ve peeped in the window a few times and I think they did a lovely job on the interior.
