The Super 8 on 3rd Avenue and President Street finally opened on New Year’s Eve. The hotel has looked complete for a long time now, and a spokesperson for Super 8 at one point said it was supposed to open in May. According to the guy manning the front desk, the hotel’s rates start at $98 a night plus tax. The writeup of the property on the official Super 8 site is here. Evidently, 98 clams buys you free HBO as well as a bed for the night. The rate puts it more or less in line with the other two budget hotels in the area, the Holiday Inn Expresses on Union and Butler. (In fact, it looks to be a touch cheaper.) This is the fourth hotel to call Gowanus home. Work is also underway on two others, one on Douglass and 3rd Ave and the other on 13th Street and 3rd Ave. A few more hotels are planned at other sites in the area, but the real estate bust appears to have stalled them for now.
3rd Avenue Super 8 Actually Opening? [Brownstoner] GMAP
well done, benson. And accurate.
“I heard that Norah Jones will be staying here while her side windows are being installed.”
But she’ll be paying $350 / night.
Benson – you are right I missed the “chain store” angle….
My bad (not as bad as you missing Convivium but…that is frankly your loss)
And I agree at sub $100, this place can serve as a good landing pad for your married but neglected & horny PS moms (are there any btw – neglected I am sure, horny I mean)
wow. Looks about right…if you were putting a Monopoly hotel on Oriental Avenue.
WhooHoooo!!
$98!
Who needs an hourly motel when you can get an all nighter for the same price.
On the other hand…..
…..at $98 per night, this might be considered the Park Slope equivalent of a “hot sheets” hotel.
I heard that Norah Jones will be staying here while her side windows are being installed.
benson, I’m sure most angst-ridden PS residents will put their parents up at the Vue. Locally owned and operated!
quote:
Why, it’s akin to eating at Olive Garden!!!!
oh please. 99 percent of people who live in park slope probably grew up eating at Olive Garden!
