Though they’re not expecting to officially open for another 4 and a half weeks, Dram is already sitting pretty on 177 South 4th Street between Roebling and Driggs — in the old Chickenbone Cafe space. We stopped by the soft-opening party on Saturday night to check out the digs. Wood-paneled walls and a long, canoe-like lantern over the bar kept the space cozy. Barkeeps were dressed up in vests, and large, cushioned alcoves provided comfy seating areas. Tom Chadwick, who crafted some of the cocktails at Rye, is running the show with Theo Peck in the kitchen. If Chadwick’s boozy Mai Tai, piled Snow Cone-high with pebbled ice, or Peck’s chicken confit nuggets with spicy mayo are any indication, this place has a lot of potential. GMAP

  1. Ugh! Come on people, I’m tired of everyone hating on Williamsburg or any new bar that opens up that caters to a trend. It’s expensive and competitive to open a bar/restaurant, hence why these places tend to cater to a generally popular taste. I doubt any of you really want to hang out at bars with shit decor and full of unattractive people? If you hate trends and people wanting to indulge in swank, even if it is recycled or not underground enough, then don’t live in New York City or adjoining hip neighborhoods like Williamsburg. If you are so cool that you want to be somewhere really uncool, move to Kansas City or Birmingham Alabama.

  2. blah blah blah negative for no reason
thanks brownstoner – walked by here (quickly cause it was freezing out) one night and wondered what it was.

just dumb that brownstoner people who love old stuff beyond reason knock an old looking bar in an old building just cause it’s in WB.

  3. i went to that hog and heifer place on saturday (meatpacking dis.). the bartender complained via megaphone that i looked like i had timewarped from 1989.

fyi, i wouldn’t have broken my no-manhattan-on-the-weekends rule except that my folks were in town.
