StreetLevel: Heights Furniture Shop Shuttering
As PMFA noted last week, the furniture shop Nova Zembla is calling it quits after 11 years. The owner of the store, which is on the corner of Henry and Atlantic, says he’s closing because he’s burnt out and wants to spend more time with his family. GMAP

Rents and prices have been falling in the area, disposable income is going down due to higher taxes, and with fewer people moving, fewer people feel the need to expensively furnish their homes with ‘high design’ stuff — the style of ‘dead relative + ikea’ seems to be more popular.
Good, that store always pissed me off with its ridiculous $300 ceramic table lamps.
This place had some badly made, badly sanded, over priced, “custom” shelves, sofa tables and the like. It was always underwhelming inside. Won’t be missing it.
Another sign our city is going down the drain. Maybe the city will open up a free soup kitchen there?
This was a good place. Hopefully there’ll be a sale.
A store which last 11 years would be successful, not cursed.
olivito,
IIRC in the late ’60s–early ’70s there was a store at that site selling supplies for witchcraft and black magic; maybe that’s thew source of the curse 🙂
I think that site is kind of cursed. The tenant’s before Nova Zembla had a hard time – and I think the ones before them even.
There is a liquidation sale, but I also beleive they will continue to sell stuff online…
