According to other shopkeepers on 7th Avenue between Carroll and Garfield, the second location of the South Slope sports bar Johnny Mack’s in the old Elementi space was supposed to open last week. That didn’t happen, but the pub definitely looks like it’s nearly ready to welcome customers. GMAP

  1. I have been here for 40 years and i don’t think anything is too far. I eat in the north slope, south slope, center slope, 5th avenue, 7th avenue. So that is not what I meant and I certainly would not compare it with 2 boots, which is pizza and mediocre food. I meant that it is a nice neighborhood place where you can grab a good bite and have drink for a good price with a nice atmostphere. Kinda like the old Snooky’s before the renovation. I don’t think there is anything similar on 7th Avenue.

  2. “It’s a restuarant with a bar that you can catch a game on the TV.”

Kinda like 2 boots, which is 3 blocks away. I know, 2 boots is more family-ish, just sayin…and don’t get me wrong, I love a Johnny Macks burger and Snookys was good in a pinch, and Elementi was an abomination, so this is an improvement, but I wouldn’t really call it filling a void. There are a few spots around 9th that are similar as well. Park slope residents act like if something isn’t within a .5 mile radius, it’s too far.

  3. The only thing that failed in that location was Elementi’s. Before that it was Snooky’s which had about a 40 year or better run. I think Johnny Mack’s will do great, there is nothing like it on 7th Ave to compete with and the Johnny Macks on 8th Ave does great. I also would not consider it a sport bar. It’s a restuarant with a bar that you can catch a game on the TV. Even Blue Ribbon put a TV at the bar and no one would consider that a sports bar.

  4. Haven’t been down to that side of the Slope in a while, but I remember Johnny Mack’s as having an exceptionally good burger. I’ll have to check this place out.

Oh, and I thought for a long long time that the location where Yamato Sushi is was cursed – it seemed like there were five places there in a row that didn’t make it past a year. Now Yamato has been there it’s gotta be at least seven years.

Really? THAT many people believe in curses in Brooklyn?

dont MAKE me put a hex on you!!! and yes there is a lot of voodoo and black magic going on in brooklyn, don’t be so naive!

    *rob*

  6. Figures of speech. Don’t be so literal.

I DO know for certain though that the Santeria shop on 5th ave. put a real curse on Bird (the store), and that it’s built on an Indian burial ground. Watch and see.

  7. Brownstonebabe:

I’ve been saying that for years. Although I’d up the ante and say that blaming something on a “cursed location” is just plain ignorant. Don’t let the innocent Angels die!

People used to say the Barrio spot was cursed, they say it all the time about the Night and Day, Bisquit BBQ, Playa spot which is just asinine since all those places were crap.

Now I read an article about the Miracle Grill spot being “cursed.”

Really? THAT many people believe in curses in Brooklyn?

I’m surprised support for Sarah Palin here isn’t higher.
