When we passed by PS 133 on Sunday, workers were busy doing something to the facade and the soil along 4th Avenue where the new school building is scheduled to go was looking freshly tilled. Anyone know any details about timing going forward?

  1. I live across the street from this site, and have a good view into what they are doing. This has been one of the slowest demolitions I have ever heard of. You can tell this is a gov’t funded job b/c there at least three guys that make sure to sweep up the entire site each morning. The school has been closed for almost a year and all that has been removed was the garden, which was done, for the most part, by the people who took car of the garden. I think this morning they finally got around to putting up the wires to provide light to the site.

At this pace the project across 4th avenue, I think it is called the Icon, is going to be completed by the time they’ve removed one brick from the school. I am definitely looking forward to moving out before construction actually happens.

  2. The School Construction Authority still has not given a time line for actual demolition – we sent them a note asking what was going on and received this reply:

“Thank you for you email related to the construction at PS 133.
Here is the status of the activities at the location: There is site clearing and temporary electric installation by Con Edison.
Please be assured that the SCA will notify the community of any future significant activity.

Let me know of any questions.”

They have been fairly decent about notification – apparently they are getting close to demolition, because they were removing caulking from the windows last week.

Still breaks our heart – the trees were removed a couple of weeks ago

  3. i don’t know about the timing, but i can see the demolished community garden from our apartment and it brings tears to my eyes.

i’d love to know when they’re going to start demolishing the existing building so i can shuffle the kiddies outta town until the dust settles.
