Another update for the stretch of Atlantic between Henry and Clinton: La Pizzetta, which opened in the fall of ’08, is out and Casa Tua is in. We spotted the owners posting the new signage last week, and the brick oven pizza spot was scheduled to open yesterday. Anyone know if it did? GMAP

  1. La Pizzetta was wildly inconsistent in service and in quality. Plus, it didn’t help matters that it took them forever to get a liquor license. So I hope Casa Tua has decent brick-oven pizza and has a permit to sell wine.

I wonder how Mezcal’s stuck it out for so long? (Extrapolate that wonderment across the whole local chain of Mezcal’s.) What would be welcome in its place?

I like the Spanish place on that block, but it seems to be family run, because their schedule is quirky (closed Mon/Tu, closed for a couple weeks in the summer for vacation).

Pete’s and Chip Shop (and Heights Chateau wine store) seem to do the heavy lifting for that block!

  2. I really wanted to enjoy eating at this place, but a few key things really sank their boat with me. While they used high quality ingredients, each pizza came to the table with a pool of standing liquid in the middle. Too much cheese? The wrong cheese? I could never sort it out, but all the pizzas were rendered floppy mush within 5 minutes of being on the table.

Then, in truly authentic Italian fashion, the waitstaff stood around watching the blaring tv over the bar arguing in Italian instead of taking any orders.

Seriously though, that stretch of Atlantic is so sad looking. Are all those landlords just drunk on crazy high commercial rents or what?

  3. I loved La Pizzetta. I wonder why the residents of Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill did not understand the authenticity of their Napoli-style pizza. I hope this new restaurant is just as good.

  4. I actually liked this place and hubby and I ate there 2-3x/month. We live right across the street so it’s convenient. Their Caesar salad and pizzas were pretty decent and the service was always good. I even like the cheesy italian pop they play 🙂 I hope the new management will only make it better, not worse. I simply can’t tolerate another empty storefront on that side of the block. With Mezcals gone, there are 3 empty in a row and 3 others empty on the same side just between Clinton & Henry!
