Debbie Fisher Jewelry recently closed up shop at 461 Court Street—in between Frankie’s 457 and Prime Meats—and now there’s a sign in the window for a new shop called Black Gold. A tipster says, “I heard that it’s going to be records, coffee, and antiques.” GMAP

  1. It’s going to be rare and collectible records, antiques, taxidermy, and a custom coffee blend. The proprietors have a solid business plan, and are going to be serving a growing niche market in the neighborhood. I wish ’em well!

  2. Thanks for the props. Indeed halcyon – the original – is alive and well in Dumbo at 57 Pearl St. right on the pedestrian plaza opposite the Manhattan Bridge anchorage. If you can’t make it down this way you can reconnect at http://www.halcyonline.com where you’ll find info on our busy schedule of weekly in-store DJ sets and off-site events, tons of free mixes to download, our complete catalog of vinyl, CDs, books, T-shirts, etc. as well as our digital music download store – halcyondigi.com.

  3. halcyon in dumbo is indeed alive and well! though kinda empty last time i walked by so pop in and give them some biz!

btw, how many coffee places does court street need? geebus. it’s like there are at least 2 places per block for a long stretch of court. a lot of thrift / antiquey stores already there too, including like 2-3 across the street and another couple within a few blocks. it’s funny how people just kind of jump on the bandwagon of existing businesses rather than creating some kind of diversity of offerings.

Anyone remember when Halcyon was on Smith/Baltic street before all the Smith St hype? I loved it there :-/

  5. Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor bloganeer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was scrounging for some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Vinyl, that is, black gold, and a concert tee.

Well the first thing you know ol Jed’s a millionaire,
Kinfolk said “Jed move away from there”
Said “Brownstone Brooklyn is the place you ought to be”
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Cobble-ee.

Hills, that is. Landmark props, movie stars.
