After selling in December for $1,075,000, work began recently at 31 Joralemon Street in Brooklyn Heights. Evidently, though, the extent of the work—namely the removal of a side wall—has raised some concerns with both the Department of Buildings and the FDNY. As the photo on the jump shows, representatives of both were on hand earlier today to check on the structural integrity of the situation and, presumably, to assess whether there’s a risk to passers-by or neighbors. 1. axenfic,

We ARE sympathetic to the new owners, and we’re glad they’re fixing up the home.
    We wish them well.

We use this website as a somewhat impersonal discussion board. We generally don’t intend any ill-will.

  2. You people are all idiots!

    A) Is anyone sympathetic to the ordeal that the new owners are going through??
    B) Would you rather have the building in rubble and gone forever or would you rather see them fix it?

Give them a break….I love Brooklyn, especially the heights, but this brownstoner website really brings out the worst in the community sometimes….All you snobby brownstoners should CHILL OUT….How about supporting the owners for trying to do the right thing and not only fix the problem, but beautify the property in the process…..God forbid if they actually intend to live there and raise a family!! Oh GOSH NO!! I feel bad that they have to move in one day in a neighborhood that obviously lost the meaning of COMMUNITY.

    GET A LIFE LOSERS!!!!

  3. dave, exactly, not to mention the built-in 100 bottle wine refrigerator and the German appliances that give you orders.
Oh, and the one perfect crystal bowl with the polished green apples.

  4. Btw the wall — and looking at the guts of the house now exposed — I just know it wasn’t a job for my family. For someone else, I’m sure it’s a deal.

  5. the replacement of the sidewall is what? 30 or 40 thou? Just a mere fraction of a typical show-off brownstoner kitchen.
