We showed you one view of Toll Brothers’ proposed plans for 205 Water Street last month. This morning, Curbed has a few more renderings that are currently on view at the Landmarks Preservation Commission in advance of tomorrow’s hearing; the two we’ve pulled out show the views from Plymouth Street (left) and Water Street (right). Wonder what they’re going to say about that penthouse tower that’s visible from Plymouth.

  1. I have confidence that LPC will make the rational decision, given the characteristics of the neighborhood, which they should be taking into consideration anyway when making their final determinations.

  2. Wasder — No Doubt! I understand why DUMBO was listed — but I really hope they can differentiate a ‘historical architectural preservation’ from an attempt to retain the ‘feel’ of the neighborhood.

(though, I still think the preservationist “perspective” goes a little overboard sometimes)

  3. tybur–living in Clinton Hill, I completely support the major elements of preservation for the rowhouses that make the neighborhood what it is, but DUMBO is prime territory IMO for innovation and modernism, especially as it is integrated into the renderings above.

  4. I like that penthouse tower. I hope that LPC can see that along with preserving historic characteristics a neighborhood like DUMBO could/should be at the same time a showcase for innovative modern architecture and design, kind of like that area of London across the river by the Tate Modern. So many cool new buildings over there. Dumbo has a similar post-industrial feel and river views etc.
