Parking during the week in Dumbo is close to impossible, so we’re hoping that the appearance of the new meters going in on Front Street and Washington Street will help generate more turn-over. Think they’ll help?

  1. DUMBO/VinHill needs a bit of a redo on street cleaning parking rules in general. Each block has different rules, times, days, etc. It is nuts. That said, I don’t see too many street cleaners bouncing down the rutted, half/cobblestoned, bombed out street in the ‘hood anyway.

  2. doubter, muni-meters theoretically create more parking spaces because smaller cars only take as much room as they need, rather than the full length of a metered spot.

Of course, drivers need to use only as much space as they need. I have noticed in Park Slope, even on streets without meters, that drivers often park like they live in a small city with endless amounts of parking, leaving five feet in front and in back of their cars.

A couple years ago, there was a block in Fort Greene just south of the park where someone posted signs instructing drivers how to park to maximize the number of spaces. Is this another litmus test for separating natives from newcomers?

  3. what the h*ll? we have to contend with the capped meter poles in the slope but they’re putting in new ones just a couple miles over? ridiculous. bring back the old meters in the slope. munimeters allow people to take up 2 spots without paying for it.

  4. Community Board 2 has pushed for muni-meters through-out the district and certainly wherever meters are being installed for the first time. DOT said no.

    Cynical much tybur?
