This new building going up at 185 Ocean Avenue keeps getting worse and worse every time we pass by. When we took a look last month, the airspace land grab in the form of a cantilever over the shared driveway had already begun; now a second story has been added and it’s looking even more ominous.

  1. I went past there yesterday; construction definately has resumed.

    sterlingsliver,

I don’t know that this particular POS will be any worse than typical Fedders crap. It’s just that we don’t have that many of these monstrosities in PLG and this one will be in a very prominent spot, acrossfromProspect Park and sandwiched between a beautiful pre-war apartment building and the handsome row of houses that make up the recently designated Ocean on the Park Historic District.

  2. Could you guys be specific about what makes you think this particular building so bad or ugly?
In particular, I’m not seeing what makes the use of the space over the shared driveway such a tragedy. For better or worse, they own the rights up to that spot — why shouldn’t they use them? It doesn’t seem to make the design any more or less offensive . .

  3. I still can not believe they knocked the other perfectly acceptable building down!

Is this new building going to be all glass or one of those brick with fedders air cons on display for decoration?

  4. Each time I pass this building, my imagination soars to new heights as to how ugly it’s going to get. Sad thing is I believe the developer, in reality, is going to outdo my worst imagined horrors!

  5. I thought construction had stopped (again) at the 2nd floor after the resumption of construction reported last month. I haven’t looked for a week or two–I’ll have to check.

My first choice for the lot (not that anyone’d care) would be a reconstruction of what had been there. Given that that ain’t about to happen, I’d almost like to see this thing finished. Ugly as it’s likely to be it MIGHT be slightly preferable to a water-filled hole in the ground. Still, I do feel for the residents of the co-op next door, as well as the homeowners in the Ocean-on-the Park HD.
