This gorgeous Romanesque Revival house at 858 Carroll Street in Park Slope just hit the market with an asking price of $3,895,000. That’s a lot of dough even for prime Slope, but this place is five stories tall and more than 22 feet wide, so maybe it’s not out of the question. The house, which is just down the block from Prospect Park, has all of its original charm (though without many of the details of some of the nearby Victorian homes) and has also had a recent renovation; the kitchen in particular looks extremely well done. Well, how about it? Is this price possible?

  1. crowd pleaser. rich liberal banker’s crunchy spouse pleaser. 3.2mm, after 9 months on the market – the stock market “fear” correction might have an impact.

turn 3rd floor into one massive master bedroom (in brooklyn terms, not toll brothers) with glorious huge master bath. kids one floor up from that.

the top floor is reserved for harry potter, attic ghosts. and the not so desirable in-law. as kids get older they will discover the top floor as the perfect drug den.

5600 sf (or whatever it is) is a lot of real estate. eventually it will get creepy, doncha think? after a that much vertical climbing eventually they’ll be begging for luxury elevator building after a few more bonuses. and the cycle will begin again.

  2. tybur6, you getting the hang of it. that’s what one should do if one has and willing to drop that kind of $$$ on a place. what’s the point of being that rich and not splashing it around right?

  3. Boerum, buyer for a 3M+ house is rich so why deal with a tenant. use it for storage, another play room, guest suite, etc. – whatever and that’s the beauty of being rich (do whatever you want with that space). at these prices, the buyers are the “do I want to buy it” vs “can I afford it” folks.
