It’s been sitting empty for quite a while, but as far as we know the For Rent sign on the front door of Cellars at 250 Dekalb Avenue is new. Given what a prime corner location this in on the best restaurant and dining strip in Fort Greene, this is big news. Let’s hope it becomes something good. With the recent loss of Bonita, we’d suggest a really high-quality, family-friendly Mexican place! GMAP

  1. Not sure about the Europe comments, but I agree that “kid-friendly” should not be synonymous with “kids run around and act like spoiled brats while mommy and daddy have a cocktail.”

  2. “so it looks like the lease holder will bear the burden of renovation”

Isn’t this typically the case? I know a few people who own bars/restaurants and they had to shell out the reno money upfront. But yeah, a 5 year lease does sound a little short if someone is going to have to fork out 250k to renovate.

  3. Who ever plans on leasing this place is in store for a major renovation. The bar itself needs about 250k to get it back up to speed, and im pretty sure you cant renovate the bar with out updating the utilities in the entire building. Ill be surprised if they lease this place out. From what i understand the sellers are looking for a 5 year lease…sounds a little un realistic to me. If the family had the capital to update the building im sure they would have already, so it looks like the lease holder will bear the burden of renovation…ill bet my life it stays vacant and they end up selling the building

  4. Ok…Alibi? Really? Here’s my description of Alibi…cover your eyes, throw alcohol on your shirt, and give me $3. You can’t see, it smells like old, rotting/musty wood, and you might see something you don’t wanna see on the carpet in there. Stop. That’s the place you go ’cause you HAVE to get drunk, not where you happen to get drunk.

  5. Ok, what’s wrong with a bar that doesn’t allow children? I like those places in my neighborhood. Why do folks with kids feel like they need to advocate for their children to go everywhere with them? That’s what babysitters are for.
