As Bed Stuy blog reported the other day, the new grocery store on Myrtle and Spencer looks set to open soon. Called Chestnut Supermarket, it is a kosher grocery store that looks pretty nice from the outside. And judging by the designer’s website, the interior should be just as impressive. Are folks excited about this? GMAP

  1. We’ve been desperate for groceries in this neighborhood. The Key Food on Myrtle is a disaster, though the Food Dimensions by Broadway is actually pretty awesome. Is this new store owned by the Hasidics? Just curious.

  2. This is actually near me. I hope it’s a great market, because our area of Bed-Stuy could use it. My feet are tired from dragging groceries home from other areas…

  3. Rob — Totally agree. Frequently the price of groceries comes up when I talk to my mother… I think she pays about 1/2 or less for most things in her town in Georgia.

  4. Makes sense due to the changing demographics over there, as the Orthodox community in Southside has expanded into this area of Bedford Stuyvesant.

I stopped by recently and the prices had gone up a lot. Even on standard items like dry Ronzoni spaghetti.

blame the people who continue to buy their ridiculously high priced groceries and other things. i mean, yeah if there’s gonna be people buying it for insane prices, id charge an arm and a leg too!
