fulton-grand-bar-exterior-0810.jpgLast night, after weeks of anticipation (on our part, at least!), the Fulton Grand Bar (at Fulton Street and Grand Avenue) opened to throngs of what your aging webmaster can only identify as late-twenty-somethings. Upon full reveal, the interior turned out to be very attractive, dimly but warmly lit with a bar with stools up front and wooden tables and seats in the back; it looked to us like much of the wood used for shelves and furniture came from recycled joists. The list of ten or so tap beers consisted of fairly obscure microbrews, including a delicious kolsch that we downed during our half-hour residency at the bar. A strong start to what will hopefully become a neighborhood gathering place.

  1. We stopped in for a drink last night. They had a great crowd and it was noisy, it’s smaller than I thought it was gonna be. I didn’t see a single person I know from the neighborhood which was disappointing for me. Micheal and Marvel said they stopped by later but we were gone by then. Maybe after the “opening night” dust settles it will become more neighborhoody.

  2. I don’t think that last night’s crowd was necessarily representative of what the crowd will end up being as it seemed that lots of the owner’s friends were there, many from outside the area. I would imagine that it will settle into a more representative mix not unlike Moe’s or even Outpost. But time will tell I suppose. It did look pretty Williamsburg-y last night you are right about that.

  3. I stopped by for a looksie, but didn’t stay because my partner had the dog outside. The space looks lovely, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Be interesting to see what the crowd ends up being. Seemed very “Williamsburg” to me last night – young and very white. Other bars in the neighborhood seem to have some luck in reflecting the neighborhood a bit better. Not being a bar owner, I am not sure how you do that – perhaps by who is working there, who there friends are, etc? Perhaps they could hire some of the old Grand 275 bartenders? (I know, just dreaming on my part…)

  4. I was too tired from my activities as landed brownstone gentry last night to go. Spent the whole day working on my place in the heat and was bone tired. But I am very happy they had a crowd. I’ll make it over there soon.

BHO what does “windy” mean in this context? (I know, I know, why am I asking this, like a moth to a flame, I just can’t help myself….)

  5. I attended last night to support my friends who own the place. I really liked the decor and atmosphere and the large windows looking out onto the intersection. I too suspect it was a bit crowded due to it being the first night, but perhaps the area was thirsty for good beer. Either way, I am glad they picked that location and opened up another neighborhood for me to explore with beer at the end of my travels.

  6. Make that months of anticipation on my part. Could definitely see this being a regular “local” for me. Last night it was jam packed, it being grand opening and all, but I would imagine that when this place settles into its rhythm it will be a great casual hang. I am also looking forward to seeing the effects of the additional street life and foot traffic on this corner. The owner said last night that they were ready to open months ago but had to wait for the licensing. Classic bureaucratic hassle.
