Eton-Vanderbilt.jpg
Looks like Vanderbilt Avenue is getting another feather in its culinary cap. The award-winning Carroll Gardens dumpling shop Eton is opening a new branch with an expanded menu at 635 Vanderbilt Avenue between Prospect and St. Marks. No word yet on when it’ll start serving food, but the menu is already posted on the papered windows. In addition to their current menu items — dumplings, pork buns, bubble tea, and shave ice — they’ll also be offering braised chicken and juilenned seitan sliders, along with both saimin (Hawaiian-style ramen) and rice bowls with a choice of pulled pork, chicken, or seitan. Check out the menu after the jump. GMAP

  1. And btw, I never tried their shaved ices, actually. Anyone know, do they have an option that is of the natural variety (like those yummy ones that I had at the Flea once??), rather than the traditional chemical colored and flavored Hawaiian ones?

  2. This place will be a hit IF they figure out how to speed up service and lower their price points a bit. I wouldn’t mind paying through the nose for dumplings (which are certainly good enough when you’re not near 8th Ave or Chinatown) if they were made with stellar ingredients and stuffed to order, but in my experience at Eton past, this was not the case. No matter what, more than 50 cents per dumpling is obnoxious, don’t you think?

Eton, I beg of you: be quick(er), be cheap(er), and have delivery, please.

  3. Bigappleblue:

Just so that you aware since maybe you are new to the neighborhood, Vanderbilt Avenue within a couple blocks has:

    Zatoons – Middle Eastern Food
    Pequena – Mexican food
    Amorina – Italian & Pizza
    The Vanderbilt – Small plates
    Cornelius – American Gastropub
    India Palace – self explanatory

That’s just off the top of my head, but I also know there is Chinese, Japanese and others on Vanderbilt between Grand Army Plaza and Bergen. Over on 6th is Kaz Am Nou, an amazing Carribean place.

And yes, dumplings will be a welcome addition to this very good selection of restaurants. There’s also something in the works next to Cafe Shane space.

  4. Holy shit this is great news. The neighborhood NEEDS some variety beyond the Frenchie-barnyard fare!

Even if the dumplings aren’t authentic I’ll definitely be going to this place for a nice palate zing.

  5. 11217–you know I think they actually just closed a location they had for a time on Sackett Street and re-opened elsewhere in CG. the old location had been doign quite well but I think they moved for more space–just bitter as the old location was right around the corner from me…

their special dumplings are pretty damn good always
