After getting caught doing demolition work on the Henderson Building in Coney Island without a permit last month, Thor Equities apparently has now gotten the proper approvals to tear down the historic building. Though it hasn’t appeared online yet, the manager of Community Board 13 confirmed to local blog Amusing the Zillion that a demolition permit had been issued by DOB. Yesterday, the windows were removed. Sounds, sadly, like a done deal at this point.

  1. Ooh, chuck, great idea – of course they’d all have to be killed in a way that would somehow relate to their crimes, although maybe just making them live in the horrors they’ve created would cause them to commit suicide. I think we definitely have a least one season’s worth of bad guys here. Gonna get started on the pilot now – should we dispatch the Rat first or save him for a later episode?

The Vegas strip, amazing? Yes, in a very scary way. Kinda like Times Square.

  2. Sad. The Henderson theatre was important in the history of the OLD Coney, at the turn of the century, when theatrical productions were held here. It was changed beyond recognition over the years.

I think all efforts should be made to save the bank, as per yesterday’s thread. This is the one building in the group of contested buildings that has been modified the least, and has the best chance to be rehabbed into a space that can keep the existing period details, while being turned into a viable and profitable venue for music, or a club.

  3. That is a shame. Another piece of NYC character bites the dust. Joe Sitt hasn’t managed to accomplish a thing except to tear down buildings, ruin businesses, anger the community and destroy the historic character of Coney Island. Can’t wait for New York City- the theme park. (*sarcasm*)

  4. It’s sad but Coney Island has a History of being built up and torn down- Hopefully something SPECTACULAR will replace it. Coney Island should look like the Vegas strip- AMAZING!
