The small storefront at 920 Fulton Street, which came on the market last spring, was finally snapped in the middle of the summer. We noticed work starting on the former hair braiding spot in August but had no idea who the tenant once until we got a tip over the weekend with what sounds like good news to us. The new tenant is something called the Brooklyn Victory Garden, which is, according to its Facebook page, an “urban general store offering local grocery and goods that support the local economy.” As of a few weeks ago, they were predicting an October opening. Bring it on!

  1. Very cool! I am amazed how many retailers on my “retailer wish list” for Fulton Street have sprouted up since the BID was instituted. Hope they stay open late. That is really what is needed around here from a retail perspective–gourmet market open late.

  2. Bodega has the same meaning in the Caribbean as in the Phillipines – “storeroom” – no? Thus the meaning in NYC. Of course ever amusing that we speak of a (an?) Yemeni bodega…

  3. * Bodega, California, a town in California, the United States
    * Bodega, Danish term for a small local bar
    * Convenience store, as known in some American cities such as Boston and New York
    * Bodega, Spanish term for a winery
    * Bodega (band), a Scottish band from Glasgow
    * Bodega (bagpipe), a bagpipe from southern France
    * Bodega, a name for a stockroom in the Philippines

*rob* — you’re also just showing your usual ignorance. From the description, this place will be nothing like a bodega.

okay fine, it’s a fauxdega. not that there’s anything wrong with that i guess, why the hostility?

  5. “The market can definitely support a place that provides fresh local produce at an affordable price.”

Fresh local produce? I guess it closes between Colombus Day and Memorial Day.
