A tipster wrote in to ask about the major renovation going on at 215 Cucina Napoletana, and when we walked over to scope out the situation, we noticed some new signage. Looks like the old Italian spot has been replaced by “Caselnova: the neighborhood trattoria.” Anybody have any intel on this place? GMAP

  1. I was actually at “Caselnova” the other day… walked by and stopped in to get the low-down. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly guy, the new owner Dean, They weren’t open yet, but I popped my head in and he was gracious enough to invite me in. Dean mentioned to me that his place is not associated with the previous owners and that he’s super excited to open up and be a part of the neighborhood. From our brief conversation, I’m definitely looking forward to what Caselnova’s has to offer. Love the fact that Columbia St. is “lookin’ up”.

  2. I’m amazed at the quick turnover of empty stores and restaurants in Brownstone Brooklyn during the recession.

If you go walk around certain areas of Manhattan, you will NOT see this….you will see rows and rows of empty storefronts, some of which have been vacant for 2 years or more.

  3. Wondering if this is a revamp of the old place with the same owners? Seems likely. When you are down that way, I recommend the sandwiches and snacks at Fultummy. And the old Lido space is being renovated as well. The block is picking up, indeed.

  4. Cool, Columbia Street is really perking up, we do the bike trail all the way to Dumbo from the beginning of Columbia. The people around Columbia are friendly to bike riders, they smile and say hello, we love it down there as well. Will def try the place to eat as well !!

  5. Walked by this weekend as we toured our new neighborhood (we managed to find a 3BR rental – with yard!- in the CSWD) and saw a nice wood bar along one wall and what looked like a service bar in the back and plenty room for tables. Appears to be a nice bright space…
