It’s been a good week for John Catsimatidis. On Monday, The Brooklyn Eagle reported that the grocery kingpin (and, among other things, real estate developer) had completely rented out the 95-unit Andrea at 218 Myrtle Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn (though this wasn’t exactly news as Crain’s had reported the same news in early September!) And just an hour ago we received a press release with the news that CVS has signed a lease for the 10,000-square-foot ground-floor retail space. This is a great thing for downtown Brooklyn and is a testament to what can be achieved by combining the efforts a strong private developer and dedicated public officials in the great Borough of Brooklyn, said Mr. C. No lease details were revealed, and the lower level space, long-touted as a grocery location, remains unspoken for.

  1. I’m okay with this. Especially if it ends up being a 24 hour CVS. The more 24-hour services in the area the better. The same goes for the new 7-11 on flatbush. Neither are the fanciest of joints, but extra light on the sidewalk and, well, a place to buy milk.

  2. I would call it downtown Brooklyn but it’s a distinction probably not worth making.

We’re meant to be excited about CVS? Really? After all, the retail in these new buildings STILL hasn’t replaced the stores from the run-down strip mall that once existed here. Yes, they were wretched, but from a purely functional angle at least you could buy milk, aspirin, beer etc.
