We were worried about 396 Dean Street when we last checked on it and saw the odd placement of the doors. As construction continues, it looks like the doors were only placeholders and this development will just be getting some big ol’ windows. Guess it all depends on how the facade turns out, but at least the height is contextual. If we had to guess, though, we’d bet against this place enhancing the streetscape.

The double-door entrance is done relatively well in Chicago…you’d think it had never been tried before and no one knew how to do it.

I also like the purple house.
perfect location if you want to scalp nets tix and be a teenage mall predator before stopping by the social security office.
from the previous photos looks like they were shooting for front balconies and nixed it
still too early for fedders covers, but i’m still optimistic.
Are there still hookers on Dean St.?
Yes, but why doesn’t the builder realize that it would be worth much more if it wasn’t an eyesore?
Someone will buy it.
I think those doors will be THE doors. They’ve been noodling around on this place forever. As I recall, it used to look like its purple neighbor. There are a lot of clapboard frames on this block, on both sides of the street. Many have been replaced unfortunately.
I really love the purple house too. It really is that color, maybe more of a periwinkle than true purple, but looks fabulous.
that house on the right is adorable – LOVE THE COLOR!
Also love the purple house. Is it really purple or is that the photo?
Don’t know why anyone would use doors as placeholders for windows – different framing, harware, etc. I think DIBS may be right…not a good sign.
