A tipster alerted us to construction happening at 404 Henry Street, at Baltic. The old deli space is going to be an eating and drinking establishment, according to a recent DOB permit. But when we passed by things weren’t looking good: the storefront facade is in rough shape and there is a SWO on the property. Not sure if this speaks to the character of the building owner, but the SWO is listed to “Henry and Baltic Ass.” It’ll be too bad if this spot gets stuck in limbo.

  1. What’s sad is how they’re treating this renovation. With our hail storm and recent rainstorms, they have NOT put up any tarps or covering from the elements. That apartment upstairs looks pretty nice, but with foundation getting water everywhere, that’s not good.

  2. EmiNo (sorry, but after yesterday’s use of DoBro, I’m acronyming everything) I missed the Ass part and I’m not usually one that overlooks that.
I guess I look like the ass here.

But that is hysterical. Doubt the DOB has a sense of humor tho.

  3. ET… just thought it was funny the DOB had been listed to “Henry and Baltic Ass,” when usually it’s listed to a name or property address. Wasn’t sure if the owner had given the DOB trouble and they were being passive aggressive by calling them an ass on their SWO 🙂

  4. “there is a SWO on the property. Not sure if this speaks to the character of the building owner,”

Not sure what “speaks to the character of the building owner” means.
But a SWO is a fairly common thing in construction. It amazes me every time it’s mentioned here with a ‘how can that happen’ tone.
Rarely does construction go smoothly and there’s always a snag or two and a SWO unfortunately is very common these days. Even for the slightest infractions the DOB is hitting hard.
