Brooklyn burger lovers rejoice: Shake Shack has finally decided to shack up in our borough. The Daily News reported yesterday the popular burger and shake joint will be in the Fulton Mall next year. While it would have been cool to see them in the old Gage and Tollner spot, the restaurant will be moving into Tony’s Famous Pizza at the corner of Fulton and Adams, right outside of the Jay Street subway. Seems like a fail-proof location to us. Shake Shack is just the latest of new arrivals to the Fulton Mall; Filene’s, SYMS, H&M and Aeropostal are also on the roster. Think Fulton Mall could be Brooklyn’s next destination spot?

  1. There are something like 40,000 college students near this place. (City Tech, Brooklyn Law, NYU-Poly, St. Francis, Berkeley College, LIU, etc.) It’s going to be a gold mine! Glad to see it there.

“I doubt it. That Pratt sudy from a couple of years ago stated the psf was v. close to Soho which was already full of larger “yuppie” stores. ”

Really? According to this report $/psf in Fulton Mall is about $125psf while Soho ranges from $250-550 psf.

    Nice find, dh.

Just wanted to point out the Fulton St range in that report is $35-$125. 86th St (Bay Ridge) is $65-$125, which appears to be the highest range in Brooklyn. Just glancing through it quickly, I didn’t see anything in the other three outer boroughs that is even close.

  3. Seven or eight years ago, my husband and I had this running joke that one day, the Fulton Mall would become “The Shops at Fulton Landing.” Ha. Oh wait, it’s happening. Even in a shit economy, gentrification is a steamroller.

  4. Arkady,

As I mentioned above, the pizza place is moving to a vacant spot on the Fulton Mall. No one is getting pushed out in this situation. The only thing that’s happening here is that Fulton Mall is about to get a ton more foot traffic because of Shake Shack. And the new residents of those new rentals and condos nearby will be very pleased as well, no doubt. As will the lunch-time workers in the area….and of course the already loyal shoppers of the Fulton Mall. No reason to suspect they wouldn’t like a burger from here too…

  5. I go to Fulton Mall quite a bit & sure hope it doesn’t turn into a cloned catalogue market. I don’t understand the lure of bricks & mortar versions of what arrives in your mailbox or computer.
The pizza at that place wasn’t horrendous – I went a few times when I was on jury duty.

  6. Goodness me. The only thing trendier than Shake Shack is hating Shake Shack. More for those of us who love it.

From my experience the Shake Shack lines are only long at Mad Sq Park and Citi Field. Everywhere else they’re pretty quick.

Secondly, leaving aside the FM debate and all its inevitable baggage, that location is at the very end of FM, and will draw from there, MetroTech and the Heights. With the street closed off and the big sidewalk, it should accommodate plenty of outdoor seating. Seems like a pretty smart place for them to set up shop.
