A month ago Greenpoint received a sum of $7 million dollars to do something nice with that waterfront. New York Shitty points out that tomorrow is the day for the public to vote on the many proposals that were on the table. The Open Space Alliance suggests a vote for a Greenpoint Boathouse, but Miss Heather thinks the money may be better spent maintaining or upgrading current waterfront facilities. Whatever you think, you can cast a vote tomorrow from 3 to 8 pm at PS 34, 131 Norman Avenue.

  1. It would be cool if after I got back from work I was able to “get to the waterfront” in Greenpoint or Williamsburg for that matter.

How much would it cost to be able to do that?

Most the waterfront is fenced off and the few crappy tree-less “parks” they do have close at dusk.

So to get to any type of open park area after work you have to either walk to that park(ing lot) across from LIC or walk all the way to Grand Street in Williamsburg.

I guess there’s always a wire or fence cutter.

  2. The money should go for new projects near the Newtown Creek sewage plant (which is what is generating the mitigation funds), not to fund existing parks/waterfront projects that the city (or others) should be paying for anyhow.
