We blogged about 461 Carroll Street when it was mid-construction last year. At the time the building had yet to show its cards in terms of aesthetics. Well, all has been revealed. The result: A very modern but rather attractive two-family residence. Do you like it?

  1. Saw it on Sesame Street the other day.
“Which of these buildings just doesn’t belong”?
Then Elmo shot the developers and some hipsters execution style!
It was the “Feel Good” episode of the year!

  2. I live on the Columbia Street Waterfront where there has been a lot of new construction, and I would be very happy if something this nice went up in a vacant lot in my area. Most of the new construction I have seen in the area is crap designed by contractors and engineers, not real architects, like this probably was. This beats any of the phony Greco-Intalianate-Art Deco monstrosities I have seen around.

  3. This is a beautiful and well balanced contemporary design, I’ll bet the interior is amazing. There is nothing wrong with contrasting old and new, if done well, and this is very nice. It is also a huge improvement for what has been a forgotten and decrepit area for decades. I could understand people being upset if this was Cranberry Street, but it is a far cry from that.

Carroll is actually the nicest out of all the blocks that cross the canal. It’s pretty much residential all the way into Park Slope.

Pretty sure if you take Nevins south until it terminates at Carroll, its industrial commercial in every direction.

But your larger point is correct – its generally nicer than making the trek via Union St or 3rd St.

  5. Carroll is actually the nicest out of all the blocks that cross the canal. It’s pretty much residential all the way into Park Slope. While I’m not a fan of this particular style the building makes no difference to me. The plus side is whoever lives there will now have a liquor store close by.

  6. “All because you’re going to a bar with fuglies hanging there, doesn’t mean you should aspire to look just slightly less ugly.”

that’s exactly what it means. you don’t go to dive bars wearing a tuxedo, do you?
