A tipster let us know that the Sunset Park/Greenwood area is getting a new cafe named Green Fig Cafe and Bakery. It’ll open at 36th Street between 4th and 5th avenues and serve bread, sandwiches, coffee, and pastries. This under-construction shot comes courtesy of the biz’s Facebook page, which doesn’t specify an opening date.

  1. @AL:
Agreed, Sunset Park needs places like this. Bit no dining options? SERIOUSLY? You must not like Mexican, Dominican, Chinese, Vietnamese, Salvadorian, Peruvian or Malaysian food.

  2. Actually it’s right at 5th Ave. A very good location in a brand new commercial building known as “new york sunset plaza” which you can Google for pictures. Neighborhood does need this.

    Absolutely,

Everytime I re-assess my living situation this locale ALWAYS comes up, as the D and N at 36th are the absolute fastest to Midtown, Faster even than the BQ at 7th ave. The housing stock isn’t even that bad, either, its just that as soon as I get off train to check a place out and realize my dining options are McDonalds and Costco my desire to move there quickly evaporates.

  4. My bad, it’s between 4th and 5th, duh!

So, I now agree with SS as it “may” be a viable location from those existing the train heading up 36th St…especially bus drivers heading to the Jackie Gleason compound.

  5. The subway is on 4th. Who the heck is going to walk a block or so under the Gowanus to 2nd Ave for a chai and muffin?

  6. Not such an odd location if you ask me. That’s half a block from the D+N express stop. So they are hoping to get people in on their way from/to the train.

  7. Very odd location. Unless they are looking for the metal fabrication and glass shop crowd (who I’d believe is not a latte and cake crowd), I’m not sure who they are going to draw.
