We’re off for the holiday today but this one couldn’t wait: Over the weekend a reader sent in a photo of the signage that just went up at the old Miracle Grill space at 504 3rd Street in Park Slope. As you may recall, there was some speculation last year that Chipotle would step into the breach when the upscale Mexican spot closed but that rumor was eventually debunked. A burger chain called Cheeburger Cheeburger appears to be the lucky winner. Hot or not?

  1. Rob:

    1 cup white vinegar
1 head garlic, cloves peeled & crushed
1/2 teaspoon whole or ground peppercorns
    3 bay leaves
    1/4 cup soy sauce
6 skinless chicken breast halves with bone
    Cooked white rice

“In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine vinegar, garlic, pepper, bay leaves and soy sauce. Add the chicken; marinate for 20-30 minutes. Cover, bring to a boil and simmer for 45 minutes. Remove meat from pan and boil cooking liquid until reduced by half. Serve over rice.

“Note: Filipinos typically make this dish with a whole chicken, skin on. Using skinless chicken breasts reduces the fat without sacrificing flavor. Lean cuts of pork may be added or substituted.”

I made it with chicken thighs skin included and it was very delish. Is that enough vinegar?

  2. ishtar, why don’t we just agree that all the “not so stellar establishments” can open in your neighborhood, so that you can be all un-“whiney ass” about them? apparently you don’t require “great goods and services for just about every need” as long as you have your *white castle* nearby. (or maybe that is your idea of “great goods and services for just about every need”.)

  3. “I think I can cook as well as Ina if wife bought me a house like that with that kitchen, that garden, etc.”

You and me, both! I love her house, garden, kitchen.

I also love how simple she makes everything look, it’s all so easy-breezy! (I mean she makes it LOOK so easy to do.)

  4. fuplease, central Park Slope is at the VERY bottom of my list of places to go to for anything. Mostly because it’s full of whiney ass people who complain too much about things like having a not so stellar establishment open among a sea gems.

  5. Well, guess I should actually do something now……this was the laziest weekend (and Friday took off for my cold).
Oh the Christian brothers are brothers. Don’t know why I said monks re Bishop Laughlin.
