Handyman Recommendation
I'm a long time reader of Brownstoner, and found the forum to be a great resource when I did some renovations on my apartment in Prospect Heights a couple years ago. I have a recommendation to share, lo these many years!
Last week I had a problem with my toilet tank and in looking through past forum entries, I found a recommendation for Steve at The Tinker's Wagon.
I can't say enough great things about my interactions with Steve; he spoke with me on the phone several times, asking about the problem, looking up my toilet online while we were talking, recommending solutions that would save me the cost of his visit, and offering to rework his already full schedule to accomodate my slightly wacky weekend schedule. In the end, his advice did save me the cost of a visit-- I was able to fix the problem myself-- but he was so kind and helpful, that I will be calling him anytime I need someone to come in for other projects in my apartment.
His website is www.thetinkerswagon.com, and the phone number is 347-813-9635.

Handyman for Window Repair?
My house has crappy 30 year old windows that are on their last legs. I'm a year or two away from being ready to replace them. For the moment, there are two that need immediate attention -- off their tracks and leaking lots of cold air. Any recs on someone who might be able to get them back on track and closed tight?

Handy Man Recommendation
I’d like to recommend the handy man who spruced up my recently-purchased Crown Heights rowhouse to make it not only move-in-able but live-able. He pretty much stripped/patched/sanded/painted the walls, ceilings and floors in each room and hallway of my house. Some rooms needed new sheetrock and he took care of that too. Check out the before and after photos. He is reliable and has a reasonable hourly rate. Will also quote per job. No job too small.

Great handyman plumbing/locks
I've seen Brian Piersol's recommendations previously on Brownstoner. We just moved from Ft. Greene, and used him for many projects. First, Brian knows brownstones and their strengths and weaknesses. He replaced a toilet for us and did a beautiful job. Another job he did was totally replace a door lock. Everything he ever did for us was great. He's dependable, honest, and fair. And he knows what he's doing. piersol33@gmail.com

Handyman Recommendation
I'd like to recommend my handyman, Brian Piersol to anyone looking to do any upgrading to their homes. I actually found him on this forum and he's been a great help to me in many projects this summer. He recently finished sheetrocking my basement walls and ceiling and did some electrical work as well. He did a great job and was reliable and conscientious during the whole process. I had a lot of nightmarish experiences in the past with contractors and handypeople (a lot of tears!) so I'm really grateful that he's been so helpful to me.
You can reach him at: piersol33@gmail.com

Handyman to Install Gas Range
I need a recommendation for a good handyman for the first of probably many small jobs around our house: installing a gas range. The range and gas line are in place, I just need someone to check the fittings and actually hook it up. Thanks.

Washer/Dryer Installation
We are buying a washer & gas dryer (stackable - any suggestions?). We're nervous to install ourselves, & hooking up to the water & gas lines. I’m surprised Home Depot will not install – does anybody have recommendations for somebody who is reliable & will not charge us an arm & a leg?

Door Handle Repair - Advice?
My door handle is holding on for dear life to my front door (both original to the 19th C building)--half of the ancient screws holding the decorative plate in place have pulled out of the equally ancient wood, and I fear any day now the remaining screws will give way. I’d welcome any suggestions/advice from anyone who has dealt with the challenges of an antique door. (One solution would be to unscrew the remaining screws, remove the plate, fill the holes with wood glue, drill new holes for the screws, and put the handle back on again, but this is beyond my own home maintenance skills.) Not sure if this is something a handyman could do, or a locksmith, or better a specialist in historic restoration. Who should I call?
