We never thought we’d see the day: Construction workers were actually on site at 701 Union Street yesterday, the forever-stalled Park Slope development between 4th and 5th avenues. A new architect, Jeffrey McKean Architects, filed a building application in January for a nine-unit building. The DOB issued a new building permit in February. The above rendering comes from the architect’s website, which also says this:

701 Union is a new six story residential building located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The building includes apartments ranging from studio lofts to large two bedroom penthouses. Setting a brick volume back from a projected wood plane allows each unit to have balcony space. The wood plane cantilevers out from the upper floor living rooms, providing units with additional space and large operational windows. Ground floor units and the penthouse units all have access to generous exterior garden or roof space.

After a construction incident here in 2009, the DOB moved to revoke the building permits, and then construction came to a standstill. According to signage out on the construction fence, new financing came through from Valley National Bank.

  1. I wish the architect’s website had more (and better) pictures since this is across the street from me and I’ll be staring at this as part of the view, but anything would be better than that vertical train wreck standing there now.
