twenty foot tall fence?

Seeking rear property line fence ideas tall enough to block view of newly constructed 7 story apartment building. There is a serious rear yard flood light problem that needs to be blocked. Currently there is a 6' tall cinderblock wall in place, but looking for something that offers us even more privacy during the day.
I understand that legally one and two family homes in residential areas can build a fence no higher than 6' and that no permit is necessary.
Two ideas I'm considering. Setting two 20' poles in the ground at each corner of the lot with air craft cable run between them so that some type of vine can grow up and across eventually filling in the space or..

Planting a fast growing hedge that can reach same height. What about bamboo or some evergreen that does not take up much of a foot print? Any planting ideas?

I would take the $250. You could pull the mirror off, take it to a glass shop and have them cut off the bottom inch, polish the edge and then glue it back. Most likely 4 globs of mirror mastic hold the whole thing on.

Or get the glass guy who comes to do the bath/shower.

I would say, "By the way, Mr. Glass guy, you wouldn't be able to take this back to your shop and make the repair, would you?" After he gives you the quote for the glass panel of coarse.

I think the proper way to do this is to put the gloss down first, buff it out and then the satin over top. Gloss is the most durable. Don't see why he can't buff it all out as long as he doesn't hit the wood. Sounds like uneven application/too many coats too soon. Pine is not an easy floor to stain.

As long as you have the wall open might as well check for leaks to see what caused the wall to fail. Might have been water passing through missing grout or from behind the escutcheon plates on the shower body. Looks like a lot of old galvanized fittings. Might be a good time to install that rainwater shower head system I hear so many good things about on this forum.

You need someone to remove all loose tile and wirelath back to a point where the wall is sound and then patch in a cement board piece to fit.

That black edge may be a decorative element but it is a design flaw... a weak link. That thin black tile has to take all the stress every time you fill the tub and no doubt becomes separated from the backer allowing water to enter.

A plastic sheet and some duct tape will allow you plenty of time to find a good handyman to fix the patch.

So the judge awarded them $35,000 to cover the legal fees they were charged to get Corcoran to finally turn over Emails that may or may not prove there was some broker conspiracy. True? And the case is still in the discovery phase, no?

I know of a few condo buildings in the SSlope with water problems, some as bad as the ones in this video. Any good lawyer is going to find a way to recover damages for their client including looking to see if the seller/broker knew about these floods before.

With all this new construction the city's infrastructure is certainly being taxed. You can't add 40-80 new units to a street and not expect backups like the one you see in the video.
In the web site photos the garden duplex has a backyard that is completely cemented over with nowhere for the water to go but that 4" drain.

Ed, called Verizon numerous times. Each time a service tech would come out. Service tech would call the engineer who would come out and tell us that they don't fix lines until any and all construction is completed on the block.
This is now impossible since we have a stalled site on one end and a finished new building that won't let ANY utilities touch their property. Nice since they are the one's who knocked over the poles and cut the lines in the first place. As you know new buildings get all their utilities via underground service so there is no incentive to fix the neighborhoods problem.

As for the stalled site, Verizon has assured us that as soon as it's finished they will talk to the residents and get their permission to make repairs. ?????

Time Warner who "rents" the poles from Verizon refuses to climb the poles because they are a safety hazard, (The last TW service person told me to cut the pole down with a chainsaw to speed up Verizon's response time...no joke).

We have made multiple NYS Public Service Calls and while they do cause an inspector to show up, it never advances the repair to our block wide problem. Verizon does not want to service their old copper wires anymore. They are just stalling until Fiber Optic shows.

You can try taking the entire lock set to a locksmith and have him re-key the cylinders or buy another set entirely. The labor might be the same as a new lock set. If you switch brands the hole pattern may be different. Most old time Brooklyn hardware stores will stock Segal brand.

By the way, double cylinder locks are illegal on all exit doors.

Issues...
Sometimes the moisture from the new skim coat will be absorbed by the old wall and de-laminate, for lack of a better word. The bond becomes weak between layers of old paint/previous skim coating and may produce a bubble.

The best way to prevent this from happening is to scrape any loose material or weak peeling paint and then prime the wall with a quality oil based sealer/primer.

The lead issue prevents dry sanding or scraping. Worth testing.

For comparison.

In Charleston, SC they just finished building (2005) the longest cable-stayed bridge in the western hemisphere at 4km in length. Eight lanes wide with pedestrian/bike lanes. Total cost $700 million. Not only came in under cost but also sooner than predicted. Swedish construction company Tidewater Skanska built it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Ravenel_Jr._Bridge

Don't we need some kind of panel of experts to discuss planning of the new bridge for a few years before we attempt to build this thing? Say at a cost of $700 million?

you cannot have an unvented gas dryer. It is illegal ad toxic. We were looking to not have to put in vents if not need be. We basically want everyone to move to ventless.

"ventless" vent into the apartment. Its makes them more more humid and dirtier....

Posted by: smeyer418 at November 20, 2009 8:16 PM in response to Dryer Venting Help

We have a ventless LG washer/dryer that I love like a family member, but for some reason they've stopped making them, I think. Anyways, the ventless machines take longer, and leave clothing a bit wrinkled, but I think the all-in-one combo machines make up for that a bit in being all-in-one. It taking 3 hours to do a load of laundry is somewhat offset if you don't have to move the load from one machine to the other...

We live in a building with no dryer vents and most of our neighbors actually have opted for the bucket venting system. From what little research I did, it didn't sound safe or good. Sometimes I wonder about this.

Call 311 and report it. Otherwise you are going to be thte bad guy in pushing for it to be fixed. The fact that they are running unvented gas dryers is very dangerous. The building needs to hire an architect and get it all filed and corrected with the department of buildings. Easiest is to put in non-venting dryers, but without the high voltage type they take a long time to dry. Otherwise, if the dryers are installed in the same location on each floor install a shaft to dump the exhaust or side wall vent. If the intent is to keep the gas connection then there are clearances that must be met from windows and such.
