we always get delivery from here - it's great. never eaten in, but BYOB is always a plus.

maybe i'll check out saltie for breakfast this weekend.

@dirty_hipster i didn't even know L stop opened until a week before it closed and i live around the corner (how long was it there?)

this is great. the island has gotten increasingly popular & crowded the last couple years, and the waits for the ferry have gotten longer. this little bit of convenience for brooklyn residents will go a long way.

this is a great little nook, glad to know it won't be razed to make room for out-of-scale out-of-context construction. more historic districts in williamsburg, please, where the relatively few opportunities for it exist.

had a wonderful dinner here. sadly i have not had the opportunity to get back since moving out of the neighborhood. such a great meal and a beautiful, unique space.

good but not spectacular. lunch favorite - tuna melt served with house-made potato chips, served hot from the fryer.

janelle wrote a review about Aurora on April 30, 2009 1:19 PM

long-time neighborhood favorite. excellent excellent excellent. just don't go when you're in a rush - this is a place to take your time and linger a bit, and it's reflected in the service (in a good way).

janelle wrote a review about Five Leaves on April 22, 2009 9:15 AM

i've only been a few times - once for dinner, which was great, and another time for brunch, which was a bit of a headache (as brunch often can be) though the food was wonderful. i find this place to be slightly on the pricey side, but worth it for the occasional casual dinner splurge. i love that they are open 8am daily for breakfast (early risers, rejoice!), and the take-away coffee window is wonderful - more cafes should have this! do not miss: fresh ricotta appetizer (share with friends, it's huge).

janelle wrote a review about Marlow & Sons on April 6, 2009 3:55 PM

food's great and tons of ambience, but it can be cramped and sometimes unpleasantly sceney. gotta take the bad with the good, i suppose.

janelle wrote a review about La Superior on April 6, 2009 3:50 PM

amazing. beware the carne asada as the grease from the meet seeps through the tortilla and it falls apart. they don't double tortilla here (my one complaint), but most other tacos don't need the extra layer. BYOB policy seems to have changed recently, so call ahead to confirm that before showing up with your own booze.

that's a really handsome remodel. kudos to the owner.

a friend of mine lived near these projects and was mugged and beaten up a bit. it was a crime of opportunity. fwiw, they chose to relocate.

that said, chances of this type of thing happening of course vary depending on neighborhood, sure, but being alert and careful about walking alone - those are good practices no matter where you live.

i've always had a great experience every time i've been here. friendly and professional service, and of course amazing food. once i brought my parents, and the chef persuaded my dad to try an appetizer of duck ravioli in cold corn soup. my dad is far from an adventurous eater, but he loved it!

can't wait!

donatella, that's a great idea. generic condos are practically a dime a dozen these days, but a nice conversion of an old building, that's much more rare. unfortunately most developers are going to want to max out FAR, etc.

i'm with johnny - i would guess they spent no less than $1M on the reno, could easily have gone to $1.5M or more depending on the extent of the damage and the quality/completeness of the renovation.

"gorg. bonus: won't lose views as result of dock st."

it appears this unit does not face the bridge view (nor dock street). it appears to face onto main street (and howard alley on the short side), best i can determine. if that is the case, that puts this apartment on the corner of the building nearest the loading docks for the building across the street, and adjacent the loading dock for the building next door.

no need to leave your house, here is the recipe:

1 package bacon... leanest possible
1 package whole pitted dates... you can use the ones with pits but you just have to remove them.
Goat cheese
Cut bacon slices in half
Cut date in half lengthwise - remove pit if necessary
Spread small amount of goat cheese inside date
Wrap bacon piece around the date
Lay all wrapped dates on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven on 400 until bacon is crispy

amen, jrd550. it was great the first two years, but this summer the whole scene got too big for its own good and became more of a negative for the neighborhood rather than a plus. at least one very positive outcome of the use of the pool as a venue is that it helped raise awareness about it in general.

i walked by the remsen street waterfall earlier this week and the parks dept. was on the promenade hosing down the trees to rinse the saltwater off. the damage to the trees is noticeable - it looks to extend beyond the city's trees into some residents' yards.
