4:30 - thank you for that much-needed levity.

3:38 -- I disagree. If you're worried about late-night crime, it's better to have a police cruiser circling the between-Lafayette-and-Dekalb blocks. That seems to be where anything is going to happen. Basically from St. Felix through Vanderbilt. There's enough pedestrian traffic around the triangle that no one gets messed with there. It's the side streets.

Biff, I know, I know. But a guy can dream, can't he?

By the way, a gay bar 10 feet from Frank's could get a little bit dicey on Saturday nights. Hard to find two more different crowds, co-mingling over cigarettes at 2am.

I'm pretty sure that Frank owns his building, so they aren't going anywhere.

As for My Little India, I'd like to see a Starbucks there.

I kid, I kid. I would love to see a cool record store, given all the good music in the nabe, though I don't know whether record stores are viable enterprises anymore. But a place with good hip-hop, soul, funk, rock and Caribbean vinyl might do really well there.

I live on that block and love the building, but this unit left me empty. $100K less and I'd think about it because it's in the back of the building and not facing the street, and it does have a fair amount of space. But the light is poor and there's nothing too unique about the unit itself.

That said, if you want to be on a nice block in a good nabe, you could do worse. I just wouldn't pay that much for it.

Can't speak to co-ops, but in our condo, as long as you're not breaking through walls and working on plumbing or electrical -- which can affect other units' well-being -- you are fine.

Should I get in line now to put my deposit down for when this goes condo in a year?

That's too bad, but hopefully works out well for the family.

Does anyone know if it's going to be a "real" Italian place -- to eat in, waitservice, etc. -- or another take-out pizza/pasta joint? with Pipitone's a couple doors down, hopefully it's the former not the latter.

That's a really sad story about Jerry Ley/Cambodian Cuisine. I always questioned why they left when they had such a devoted following in the neighborhood. I hope it works out for him and the business.

People always look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them this, but does anyone else remember that there was fine print on the menu saying that if you stayed at your table more than 10 minutes after the check came, they'd charge you something like $5 extra? Given how slow the service was, I think most people were very happy to pay and leave finally. Food was great though.
