This week, we’re looking back to the beginning of April and checking in on how four of our featured listings fared on the market.
First up, this listing is a head-turner for more reasons than one. The house itself is a stunner — a painstakingly restored 1895 Renaissance Revival Bed Stuy brownstone loaded with original details and exquisite Victorian-style updating. And the sale will come as a shock to many — at 538 Decatur Street, it’s the home of a couple known to many Brownstoner readers and Bed Stuy residents who are restoring or renovating houses. This House of the Day is still available for an increased price of $1.925 million.
Next, is a Clinton Hill house with a good deal of detail inside and out — and some interesting history. Located at the neighborhood’s southern edge, at 538 Clinton Avenue, off Atlantic Avenue, it’s one of a group of three with a mansard roof, bay window, and carved detail out front. While it looks like limestone, it is actually Béton Coignet cast stone — concrete. This House of the Day is still available for a reduced price of $3.35 million.
Third is an unusual and attractive prewar one-bedroom co-op in an interesting building for under $500,000. It’s on the fourth floor of a turreted Queen Anne limestone mansion at 184 Clinton Avenue, designed by Montrose Morris and built in 1892. It’s got a good-sized living room with an offbeat hexagon-ish shape and light from three windows. This Co-op of the Day sold in June for the ask price of $455,000.
Finally, a detached early 20th century brick house in Colonial Gardens, a private mews in Bay Ridge, off Shore Road. This one’s got an interior garage, which shares the English basement with a laundry room, a half-bath and a paneled rec room. In the house proper there are three bedrooms (with river views from the master), a living room with a fireplace, a dining room and a small kitchen. This Open House Pick is still available.
