Four Open Houses to See This Gray Weekend, Starting at $899K
The weather may be calling for 50 shades of gray this weekend (or at least two or three) but it’s spring nonetheless — which is to say, the season for house hunting.

The weather may be calling for 50 shades of gray this weekend (or at least two or three) but it’s spring nonetheless — which is to say, the season for house hunting. For those so engaged we’ve got the usual four homes to check out this weekend, in a mix of styles and states of repair. They’re found in Carroll Gardens, Bushwick, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Clinton Hill.
First up is a four-story brick townhouse on 3rd Street in Carroll Gardens, with a triplex over a garden rental. It was renovated at some point, with new floors and recessed lighting, though some detail remains, including the newel post and banister and a marble mantel in the living room. The parlor floor was opened up, and the kitchen renovated with a center island, granite countertops and a six-burner range. The triplex has four bedrooms split over two floors, one with a dressing room and another with a walk-in closet. There’s a small study, a finished basement and a landscaped backyard with multi-level ipe decking, a bluestone patio and a colorful painted mural.
Next is a Neo-Grec townhouse with a bay front in Clinton Hill, on Lafayette Avenue across from the Ryerson Towers. It’s a large one, 21 feet wide and four stories, which has been renovated, but retains original details including crown moldings, a tin ceiling and a tiered, mirrored mantel. As it stands, it’s split into double duplexes; the listing offers an alternate floor plan for a triplex over a garden rental, so a buyer could go that route. The mechanicals have been updated, and “the structure is super solid,” according to the listing.
In Bushwick, we find a three-family with an aluminum-sided facade on Saint Nicholas Avenue. It’s 25 feet wide, and looks to have a fair amount of space to play with, but it could use some updating. It’s set up with a three-bedroom floor-through on the ground floor, a pair of one-bedroom rentals above, and a finished basement below. It’s got high ceilings and original wood floors with inlaid borders.
Last up is a somewhat offbeat property, a squat, semi-detached two-story brick townhouse on Midwood Street in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. Dating to the 1920s, it’s a two-family currently set up as a three-bedroom single residence. There’s no floor plan and no interior photos; plenty of buyers interested in this one won’t care about either, as this seems a likely development site. They’ll want to know that it’s a 20′ by 100′ foot lot.
