The listing for this Clinton Hill townhouse is short on info, but it shows some lovely period detail on the bottom floors, including inlaid floors, the original arched entry door, an entrance mirror, crown moldings, wainscoting and a pair of marble mantels, including one that’s quite a beauty. Dating to the mid 19th century, it’s located just outside the historic district, at 510 Washington Avenue, between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street.
Once a classic Italianate brownstone, the house has been stripped of its lintels and door hood, in the kind of move that haunts preservationists’ nightmares, and covered in what appears to be stucco. The cornice remains, at least.
On the narrow side (16.83 feet wide, to be exact, per PropertyShark), the house is currently set up as a four-family, most likely with an apartment on each floor. It’s occupied, with tenants on month-to-month leases.

Presumably it wouldn’t be hard to convert to a duplex with a pair of upper rentals. What kind of shape the place is in is an open question though. There’s much that isn’t shown, including any kitchens or bathrooms. Most likely some work is going to be needed.
The backyard looks pretty presentable though. One of the few areas pictured, it’s got a paved patio, a wood deck and some planting beds.
Listed by Tim Hairston and Angela Peterkin of AP Realty Group, the house is asking $2.45 million. Like what you see?
