Repurposing the Sink Area in the Rear Bedroom

archdemo2

In the rear bedroom on the top floor, the original marble sink was missing. Luckily, we have an extra one that we had to remove to build out the third floor bathroom, so we'll put it here. We're going to clean up the space under the sink and leave it open--we think it may make a nice little desk area for our oldest child.

the sinks are very cool- i've been trying to find photos of interiors, i've found "new york interiors" which has photos of interiors of brownstones etc. 1850-1920 or something like that but i am always hoping to come across that photo that resembles my layout with it's original features intact- not my house but one that at least would represent the feel of the layout- anyway, i know i am not the only one- has anyone come across a way they found some more specifics (photos, blueprints) about interiors of (the last) turn of the century brooklyn brownstones?
i haven't done the research thru the DOB yet has anyone been through that experience?

I have been through the DOB process. You will need the block and lot # of your building and then the next day (there is a one day turnaround process)you would go back and see if they have a folder on your building and if the folder contains the original plans for the building. If they do, you can copy them at DOB. They have copy machines there - bring lots of change.

Another route is if your building is in a historic district, call the NYC Landmarks Conservancy and ask for the report that designated your block as being in the historic disttrct. That report would have details on your particular building, including possibly the name of the builder/arch. and with that additional info you maybe able to find the original plans for the building if DOB did not have them through various arch. libraries - Columbia has one.

Hope that helped and good luck.
