Top Floor Bannister

bannister

Here's the bannister leading up to the top floor. It still needs a final light sanding and final coat but that will have to wait until we clear out for a long weekend--don't want the little ones breathing that stuff.

Look great. Did you have to replace any spindles and if so, how did you do it?

Very sharp.

Looks great, what did you finish it with? Wax?

anyone else think that only the tread should be painted the dark color, and not the moulding trim pieces?

Interesting point, Jako. Think you might be onto something.

No, I think it looks classy with molding and trim painted as well.

By the way, are the treads painted black? I can't quite tell from the photos? I'm curious to know what you used, since I have a similar stairway that needs work, and I was thinking of painting the treads(and much-less-ornate spindles, but resanding and refinishing the banister itself).

The paint on the veritcal trim definitely makes it look a bit "off" imo.

Brownstoner...I have a photo of our redone stairs that show what I mean about the vertical trim being painted...how do I post a photo, or do I send it to you by email?
